On this Day in Music – 29th October

1970’s

1971 – The American guitarist, and co-founder and leader of the Allman Brothers Band Duane Allman tragically died following a motorcycle crash. The musician was riding his Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle on Hillcrest Avenue, in Macon when he lost control attempting to swerve past a truck, with which he collided. He died shortly after in hospital.

1950’s

1957That’ll Be The Day by The Crickets started a 3 week spell at the top of the UK Singles Chart.  The song was recorded under the Crickets as Buddy Holly was prohibited by Decca records of re-recording any tracks recorded in the 1956 Nashville sessions, of which That’ll Be The Day was one such track.
