No.04 21/09/2016 – Van Morrison’s 1968 Astral Weeks is often regarded as Van the Man’s finest moment, although some prefer Moondance. The tracks The Way Young Lovers Do and Madame George are sublime.

1970’s

The body of former Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers singer-songwriter Gram Parsons was cremated on this day 1973. Parsons had died a couple of days earlier from a massive overdose of morphine and alcohol. However, Parson’s friend and tour manager Phil Kaufman stole his body from Los Angeles International Airport, drove to the Joshua Tree National Park, poured gas into the casket and lit a match. The unusual circumstance arose when Kaufman and Parsons agreed to this unconventional action upon the untimely death of one of the pair.
