2011 – What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction became the UK Number One Single, where it remained for just one-week. The song was the band’s debut single.
1970’s
1979 – Gary Numan’s Cars became the UK Number One Single. The track only spent one week at the top, and was knocked off by The Police with Message in a Bottle.
1950’s
1956 – Lay Down Your Arms by Anne Shelton became the UK Number One Single, where it stayed for 4-weeks. The marching song was engineered by the legendary producer Joe Meek.
1940’s
1945 – American blues singer and guitarist Blind Willie Johnson died from complications of syphilis and blindness. Apparently earlier that year Johnson’s house was destroyed by fire, however he continued to live in the ruins, which was a factor with his health deterioration. He was buried in Blanchette Cemetery, in Beaumont, although his grave site remains unknown.
