The lead singer, lyricist and only constant member of the post-punk band The Fall, Mark E. Smith was born on this day 1957 in Broughton, Salford, England. Smith formed the band after a Sex Pistols gig in 1976, and led the band until his death in 2018.

The 1971 Graham Nash album Songs For Beginners was the Hollies and Crosby, Stills & Nash member debut solo release. Guests include Rita Coolidge, Neil Young, Jerry Garcia, David Crosby, Dave Mason and PP Arnold. The tracks Better Days and Chicago are incredible. Deserves multiple listens.

The 1975 album by English multi-instrumentalist Mike Oldfield, Ommadawn, failed to gain the success of Tubular Bells, although contains moments of classic Oldfield. The LP, like his previous two LPs is same-titled compositions divided into Part One and Part Two.

The debut album, Oceanic, by 23-year-old Niklas Paschburg is a stunning piano-based ambient piece. The album was recorded in a makeshift studio looking across the Baltic Sea, and evokes a sense of isolation experienced when working on the project. Beautiful melodies!
