The American country singer-songwriter Roger Miller was born on this day 1936.

The guitarist, singer-songwriter and original Spirit member Randy California drowned (1997) rescuing his 12-year-old son Quinn in the Pacific Ocean near his mother’s home at Molokai, Hawaii. Quinn thankfully survived the ordeal.
