On this Day in Music – 9th June

1920’s

American rhythm-and-blues singer Johnny Ace was born (John Marshall Alexander, Jr.) in Memphis, Tennessee on this day 1929. Ace died of gunshot wounds at just age 25, and the incident is often called rock’s first tragedy.
