The American singer Art Garfunkel was born (Arthur Ira Garfunkel) in Forest Hills, Queens, New York City on this day 1941. Art is best known for his partnership with Paul Simon, known as Simon & Garfunkel.
The ‘Groover from Vancouver’ Bryan Adams was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada to British parents on this day 1959. The gravel-voiced singer/guitarist has had numerous hits including Run to You, Summer of ’69 and the monster selling (Everything I Do) I Do It for You.
On this day 1977 Christopher Searle, manager of the Nottingham Virgin Records store, was arrested for displaying the Sex Pistols LP Never Mind The Bollocks in the shop window. Policewoman named Julie Dawn Storey claimed the cover violated the 1899 Indecent Advertising Act. When the case reached court the Sex Pistols where defended by Rumpole of the Bailey author John Mortimer!
