![]() The self-titled debut Mapache album was another recent discovery. Rough Trade described them “breath-taking harmonies and heartfelt yet heady sound, was honed by surfing the beaches and exploring the deserts and canyons of their native California.” Just my ticket! |
![]() And now for something completely different…Misique des Tsiganes de Roumanie by Taraf de Gaidouks. The troupe of traditional Romanian musicians released this LP in 1991, and play a variety of Eastern European styles. Listen out for the cymbalum. A surprising delight. |
![]() I was introduced to the compilation album Coxsone’s Music The First Recordings Of Sir Coxsone The Downbeat 1960-63 by Steve Earle on the Amoeba Records What’s In My Bag? Youtube series. The triple-LP features early Jamaican ska, Rastafari and dancehall, produced by the legendary Clement Dodd. 2 ½ hours of history. |
![]() The Gin Blossoms New Miserable Experience is 25 years old today. The album took nearly a year to find success, but did thanks to the single Hey Jealousy. |
