The American musician and guitarist, singer and principal songwriter for the rock band the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed (Lewis Allan Reed) was born on this day 1942 in Beth El Hospital in Brooklyn. Reed recorded classic LPs such as The Velvet Underground & Nico and White Light/White Heat with the Velvet Underground and solo LPs such as Transformer and Berlin.
