1910’s

The American “cosmic” jazz composer Sun Ra was born in Birmingham, Alabama.  Born Herman Blount, after a popular vaudeville magician, Ra is best known for his work with his ensemble The Arkestra.

2010’s

A suicide bomber detonated a homemade bomb in the entrance of the Manchester Arena following an Ariana Grande concert on this day 2017. Sadly 23 people died, including the bomber, with over a 100 people injured during the attack.
