2013 – Wake Me Up by Swedish DJ Avicii began a three week reign at the top of the UK Singles Chart. The vocals were provided by American soul singer Aloe Blacc, and became one of the 2013 summer anthems.
1990’s
1996 – Wannabe by the Spice Girls became the UK Number One Single, where it reigned for 7 weeks. The debut single from the band was rated in 2014 as the most easily recognisable pop song of the last 60 years
1990 – Roger Waters performed The Wall live in Berlin, on a stage constructed between the Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate. The show was to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall eight months earlier, and included numerous guests such as the Scorpions, Cyndi Lauper, Sinéad O’Connor, The Band, Joni Mitchell, Bryan Adams and Van Morrison.
1980’s
1987 – Madonna’s Who’s That Girl began a one-week spell at the top of the UK Singles Chart. The song was from the soundtrack of the film of the same name.
