On this Day in Music – 14th September

1980’s

1983 – English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse was born at Chase Farm Hospital, in north London. The troubled star sadly died of alcohol poisoning in July 2011, aged 27.  Winehouse released two albums, Frank in 2003 and Back to Black in 2006.

1950’s

1959 – The Norwegian singer Morten Harket, best known as the lead singer of the A-ha was born in Kongsberg, Norway.

1954Frank Sinatra achieved his first UK Number One Single with Three Coins in the Fountain, from the film of the same name.  The song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and remained at number one for 3 weeks.
