American singer-songwriter and guitarist Jeff Buckley (raised Scott Moorhead) accidentally drowned while swimming in the Wolf River Harbour channel of the Mississippi River on this day 1997. Buckley is best remembered for his angelic vocals, the album Grace, which includes his version of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.
