Ian Dury, famous for fronting the Blockheads was born in Harrow Weald, Middlesex on this day 1942. Dury’s mother Peggy, as she was known, was a health visitor, and his father William was a coach driver and former amateur boxer. When Dury was seven he contracted polio, which hindered his mobility throughout his life. A few of Ian Dury and the Blockheads best known tracks include Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, Sex and Drugs and Rock ‘n Roll, and Billericay Dickie.

The Stranglers 1978 album Black and White is 40 years old today! The band’s 3rd LP was not as acclaimed as the first two, but does contain some gems… Nice ‘n’ Sleazy, Tank and Do You Wanna. The band also recorded a version of Sweden sung in Swedish, for the Scandinavian market! |
